Just as important as the sweaters, jeans and little 'just in case' black dress will be the music I pack for the journey. I am starting the pile; REM as it turns out, has their own pile. So does Jackson Brown and Amos Lee. I can hear Mary Chapin Carpenter sing I am a Town in any one of these pin dots on my map. But I will save that for a special town. I will save Vince for when I need down time; and Ryan and Rob for when I need to stay awake. Of course I have Third Day and Chris for when I miss church. I look for some Bon Jovi just to keep it real, but realize I don't own any. Oh, there is the Cat Stevens album, thank God. Dylan x 2 and the Cowboy Junkies each have their own pile.
Who else needs to come along on this journey?
I hope I find obscure radio programs from town to town as well. You can never underestimate the power of a local swap meet or the Marion Hour. Almost 40 years ago it was that Marion Hour that my parents heard on the radio and it called them all the way to Battleview, North Dakota. I feel like I have something calling me out to the unknown now too; I don't know if it is a song, or the sound of content breathing. But I am listening. It is better then any road map right now.
But don't fear, I am borrowing a GPS just in case it is just static.
Recipes: a good mix of music should lift you up, tear you up and fill you up.
Roadtrips: listen, you just might hear where you need to go...
Renovations: plan to represent yourself well where ever you go; that includes decent taste in music.
